Setup Tips

Ensure you get the most out of your filming. Follow the setup checklist to ensure you are ready for filming and haven't forgotten anything.

GoPro settings

  1. Adjust the screen saver mode of your GoPro or other action camera so that the screen won't turn off while you are filming.
  2. Set the orientation of your GoPro or other action camera to suit your desired viewing perspective (i.e. TV vs Social media).
  3. Set your frame rate accordingly, a higher frame rate (60fps or higher) will provide a buffer to smoothly slow down footage if desired.

    Quadball handle setup and options

    1. Attach the GoPro or other action camera using a buckle mount.
    2. Attach lights and other accessories as required.
    3. Attach a lanyard or clip to your Quadball handle so you don't loose it. The handle is customisable so it can suit your needs.

      Checklist before jumping in water

      • Camera lens is clean and ready for filming.
      • Camera Battery is charged and installed.
      • Camera SD card is installed and has free space.
      • Filming lights batteries are charged and installed.

      General Filming tips

      • Avoid fast movements, use slow camera panning and movements.
      • Use lights to enhance the details and colours underwater.
      • Reduce blowing bubbles when filming subjects overhead, bubbles will distract from your subject.
      • Film at least 5 seconds before and after the moment you want to capture. This buffer will enable easier video editing between clips.
      • If diving in tropical environments, avoid leaving your setup in cold water before diving. This temperature change may create fog in your housing.
      • Watch your depth.... It is easy to get excited and chase after something to film it. If it is too deep, accept it is out of reach.
      • Practice your diving buoyancy. Once you have mastered this, smooth footage will be easier to capture.

Care and cleaning of underwater equipment

      • Wash Quadball handle, camera, lights and accessories in freshwater.
      • Operate all switches and moving components while submerged in fresh water.
      • Dry handle, camera and accessories.
      • Where necessary, lightly lubricate threads and O-rings to ensure smooth operations are maintained.
